Four scenes of Italy in red ink, a favorite of Berman, on paper. Berman, whose family fled Russia in 1918, first visited Italy with architect Emilio Terry who developed his appreciation for Classical architecture. He visited Italy frequently, eventually moving to Rome in 1957. Dimensions noted are framed.

Eugene Berman
Born in Russia, Eugene Berman is known for his imaginary landscapes and architectural conceits. He is also recognized for his Baroque-like stage set designs for the likes of the Metropolitan Opera.
