Dining Room of Ann Getty, 2880 Broadway, San Francisco
2020
Patron of the arts and sciences Ann Getty (1941–2020) brought the same bounteousness to her interiors as she did to her philanthropy, most notably at the 1913 residence she shared with husband Gordon in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood. Museum-quality furniture such as verre eglomisé cabinetry and George III giltwood armchairs sat alongside artworks by Canaletto, Matisse, and Renoir, and the home cemented Getty’s status as one of the most important collectors of British decorative arts in the world. Shown here, the dining room, hung with circa-1720 chinoiserie panels made for the king of Poland; Chinese porcelain figurines stand atop golden brackets.
