Paul César Helleu

Paul César Helleu (French, 1859–1927) was a painter and engraver acclaimed for his elegant portraits of society women of the Belle Epoque. He studied under Gerome at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts along with fellow pupil Sargent. He appear in Marcel Proust's A la Recherche du Temp Perdu as Elstir.
